MET Office Forecaster

As a MET Office Forecaster in Steenokkerzeel, you will be part of a specialist team of three meteorologists and you will contribute to the safety and efficiency of air traffic in Belgium. You will combine operational meteorology with providing direct support to various users within the aviation sector.

What does a MET Office Forecaster do at skeyes?

  • Carry out weather observations and produce weather forecasts and warnings for Brussels Airport and Belgian airspace;
  • provide specialist meteorological support to air traffic control, recreational aviation (such as balloonists and glider pilots) and general aviation;
  • analyse current weather situations and translate complex meteorological data into clear and usable information for operational applications;
  • provide telephone briefings to meteorologists at regional airports, balloonists and pilots who require additional information on weather conditions for their planned flight;
  • contribute to the safe preparation and execution of aviation activities by providing timely and accurate meteorological information;
  • participate in projects within aviation meteorology as your experience and expertise grow, for example relating to forecasting techniques, warning systems and innovative meteorological applications.

Candidate profile

What makes you our perfect MET Office Forecaster?

  • you hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a scientific discipline (Geography, Physics, Mathematics) or have at least two years’ proven work experience as an (Aviation) Meteorologist;
  • you have an excellent command of Dutch and/or French and a good command of the other national language (Dutch or French);
  • active knowledge (reading, speaking, writing) of English is essential;
  • you work efficiently and accurately, both independently and as part of a team, and are proficient in standard IT applications (MS Office, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.);
  • you are communicative and customer-focused;
  • you have an interest in everything related to meteorology and climate;
  • you are willing to work in shifts, 7 days a week and 24 hours a day.
